Phuket was aflutter with fun activities and entertainment this past Saturday, as parents, government officers and, of course, the kids celebrated Children’s Day.

At Provincial Hall, Governor Nisit opened the doors of his office, so that visiting kids could see what an office looks like.

Kids also had the chance to ask the governor what it was like to sit in an office… and, possibly, some questions about local governance.

Meanwhile, out in the gardens of Provincial Hall there were plenty of fun and games to keep the future provincial leaders entertained.

Provincial Hall was not the only venue for Children’s Day activities. Patong pulled out all the stops with 16 performance stages along the beach road and at Loma Park and Jungceylon held an outer space themed two-day extravaganza.

Up at Laguna Phuket there was a “Kids Got Talent” contest with prizes of 50,000 baht for the lucky winner. And at Cape Panwa, kids got into the aquarium for free and the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command base let them jump around on the warship Bangpakong and its helicopter.

Thailand’s first Children’s Day was in 1956, since then, government leaders have annually branded the event with a slogan. This year, the slogan created by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha was: “Knowledge and virtue together will move us into the future”.
