We are at the international departures / domestic departures area of Koh Samui International Airport (USM) located on the island of Koh Samui in Thailand. This video is a walk through of the airport from a passengers perspective from arriving at the airport by taxi to the boarding of our Bangkok Airways international flight to Hong Kong in a Bangkok Airways Airbus A319.

The airport footage begins at the main arrivals area of the airport (we arrived in a taxi from Chaweng Beach which cost us around 300 Baht. From the airport to Chaweng Beach this same trip costs around 500 Baht. Airport taxis and shuttle prices to and from Samui Airport to places like Chaweng Beach, Lamai Beach, Bophut etc. can be viewed during the video. Following our arrival we walk into the main airport terminal where we proceed to Check-in our luggage and receive boarding passes for our flights. Our flight was from Koh Samui to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Helsinki and Helsinki to Copenhagen. From the Koh Samui Check-in counter we where able to check our luggage from start point to our end destination Copenhagen Denmark and we also received our boarding passes for all our flights (this meant that we did not have to check-in again for our flights at Hong Kong Airport or Helsinki Airport). After check in the viewer is taken on a short walk where we show the ticket offices for Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways. We then begin the beautiful walk through the airport to our gates. This entire tropical airport is open air, which means passengers are outdoor at all times and shelter is pretty much the roofs over the gates etc. The main “airport terminal” is a beautiful long street which offers a selection of shops for passengers to shop at and a few bars and restaurants where passengers can have a meal or drink. Watch out for the aircraft taking off and landing, and take note of the beautiful outdoor seating areas at this airport! If there was a Monsoon rain storm at this airport I believe passengers could risk getting wet! Following our “longer” walk through the main passenger terminal area we begin our walk to our flights Gate area. We start by walking through the international and domestic flights arrivals area where passengers are just arriving on the island (area for taxis and mini-bus booking). From this area we continue walking to our gate which is a beautiful round terminal protected from the elements by a roof shelter. We walk around our gate area where we can see that Bangkok Airways offers there passengers a complimentary food and drinks area. Passengers are also given access to free WiFi (the WiFi Code must be fetched from the main convenience desk in the terminal just next to our gate after the tax free shopping). We then walk through the tax free shopping area which offers the normal duty free tobacco, drinks and perfumes offered at all international airport Duty free shops. The duty free shop also includes a nice selection of Thai delicacies which can be taken home as gifts and local Thai spirits. Following our tax free shopping walk we then proceed into the main terminal where passengers are waiting for their flight to Bangkok. We then pass the Bangkok Airways free food and drink area and make our way to the Smoking area at the airport (Smoking is allowed at Koh Samui Airport only at this lovely outdoor smoking area). From here we head back to our gate and finally the video ends with us on our airport shuttle being driven out to our Bangkok Airways Airbus A319 flight to Hong Kong.

I apologize for the editing work of this video (rather erratic panning etc.). All airport footage was filmed at 50 frames per second (very detailed and big files). The software that we use to edit our footage (PowerDirector 12) had great difficulty playing back the huge files thus making editing almost impossible. I do believe that Powerdirector themselves state that there software cannot handle footage of 50 frames per second.

Wiki writes about Koh Samui Airport (USM), “Samui International Airport, also known as Ko Samui Airport or Koh Samui Airport, is a privately owned airport on the island of Ko Samui in Thailand…”
Samui Airport writes, “Samui Airport, located at the northern part of the island near Bo Phut Beach, began construction 1982 and was officially opened in April 1989…Samui Airport is privately owned and operated by Bangkok Airways. Most flights from the island are operated by Bangkok Airways. Thai Airways international began flights to Samui in February 2008…”

This airport footage is filmed at Koh Samui International Airport (USM) located in Thailand on Thailand´s second largest island after Phuket, Koh Samui.
